We received a waffle iron for Christmas a couple months ago and have used it every weekend since. We treat ourselves to a once-a-weekend breakfast of waffles. It’s my husband specialty and actually the only meal he cooks. I wanted to find another recipes to cook using the waffle iron. This recipe is a fun and clever twist between french toast and waffles– a perfect waffled slice of french toast.
1 loaf of sourdough bread
2 eggs beaten
splash of heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Cut the bread into slices, about 3/4 inch thick. Beat the remaining ingredients together.
Dip the bread in the egg mix and coat both sides. Place the wet bread on the waffle iron and close it. Cook time depends on how hot your waffle iron gets. I cooked mine for about 4 minutes.
Once cooked, remove and serve up with your favorite fixings. I actually cooked this for dinner so I dressed the french toast waffles with butter and honey goat cheese and served with sliced tomato, salami, and avocado.
